Meet Damian Bloss!

In March of 2020, Damian left the grounds of Ashley with a determination to conquer his addiction and build a life filled with purpose and meaning. Even though there have been lingering urges and challenges along the way, Damian has found strength in his ongoing battle against addiction.

“The journey has not always been easy, I still have urges and while not as strong as they used to be, they are still there. I know I will never beat this disease completely but with the help of Ashley providing me the tools and resources I very much needed I have been able to combat those potential setbacks, at least for today, and that is all that matters.”

Damian found a desire to extend a helping hand to others who may be struggling silently with their own addictions, shrouded by the stigma that often surrounds this sensitive topic.

“I have discovered a desire to help others who are in the same situation or who may be battling with their own addictions daily that may be afraid to speak up about their struggles due to the stigma that still surrounds this sensitive topic (judgements, shame, and feeling alone). I want them to know they are NOT ALONE.”

Driven by compassion and a deep understanding of the struggles faced by those battling addiction, he has embarked on a mission to reach out to those in need, regardless of their circumstances. Partnering with the Harford County Detention Center, he serves as a mentor to individuals grappling with drug and alcohol-related offenses, offering hope and encouragement in the face of adversity.

“One of my greatest accomplishments I have achieved through sobriety is being able to share my experience, strength, and hopes with those who are in rehab, on the fence about rehab, incarcerated, or simply feeling lost in this often-negative world we live in. I have a partnership with the Harford County Detention Center mentoring those with drug and alcohol-related offenses, reassuring them that the jumpsuit they are wearing right now does not have to define them and they are worthy of a different path.”

Recognizing the importance of spreading awareness, Damian wrote a book titled “Breaking the Silence: My Journey from Addiction to Healing.” Through this narrative, he aims to reach individuals far beyond his immediate community struggling with addiction.

“The unfortunate truth is that we cannot heal or help everyone but that should not be a reason to stop trying.”

We are proud to shine light on our Ashley Alumni and hope Damianโ€™s story can serve as a reminder that while the path of sobriety may be more difficult, it is more rewarding. Through resilience, compassion, and unwavering determination, Damian has not only overcome his own struggles but has also become a source of inspiration and support for countless others on their path to recovery.
