Donor Highlight: Phyllis Raskin-Hadley and Richard Hadley
For Phyllis Raskin-Hadley and Richard Hadley, supporting the non-profits they care about, including Ashley Treatment, is a family affair. Both came from families where philanthropy was an important aspect of life, and they continue that tradition. Their recent contribution to the Unlocking Ashleyโs Future Campaign was discussed with their children, so they would understand the importance of giving back to an organization that has done so much to improve the quality of life their family has experienced.
Phyllis was a patient at Ashley in December 1988 and describes Ashley as a place that โtook me from illness and despair to health and hope. The recovery built on Ashleyโs solid foundation has given me an amazing and wonderful life.โ At ten years sober, Phyllis reached out to Rev. Leonard Dahl, CEO of Ashley at that time, saying she wanted to make a donation to Ashley in gratitude. That phone call and a subsequent visit to campus was the start of decades of engagement and support at Ashley. Phyllis has since served on Ashleyโs 25th Anniversary Gala Committee and became a member of the board in 2009. Having known both Father Martin and Mae Abraham, and having them both as teachers, educators, and inspirational leaders while a patient at Ashley, she believes her strongest asset is keeping the legacy and heart of Father and Mae alive.
Phyllis says she is most passionate about the Family Program at Ashley, with her career as a family clinical psychologist helping to shape this enthusiasm. She believes that while Substance Use Disorder (SUD) is a family disease, so too recovery can be a family experience. Ashley offers the education, clinical expertise, and connections to support every individual and family member on their unique journey to recovery. Through the Unlocking Ashleyโs Future Campaign, the Family Program will be expanded to offer an on-campus experience as well as a digital one. The Family Program recognizes the need for family members to have education, support, counseling, and fellowship in order to better understand SUD and to have a meaningful opportunity to begin their own experience of the family in recovery.
Phyllis and Richard were honored to support the Unlocking Ashleyโs Future Campaign with a โblendedโ gift โ including an outright donation and a gift through their estate plan. By doing so, they are ensuring Ashley can fulfill its mission to transform and save lives now and for the next generation. Phyllis and Richard say they know their gift will โenhance what Ashley does bestโ by providing โthe best possible chance at a new start.โ They are thrilled with the expertise Ashleyโs co-CEOs Alex Denstman and Dr. Greg Hobelmann bring to the organization and want this campaign to elevate Ashley so that everyone can see their continuum of care as the gold standard in Substance Use Disorder treatment.ย ย
Ashley is deeply grateful to Phyllis, Richard, and their entire family for supporting the Unlocking Ashleyโs Future Campaign, and for their continued advocacy and dedication to Ashleyโs mission.
Research at Ashley
Did you know Ashley recently published an Outcomes Report, highlighting internal findings on our patient treatment outcomes? The research involved in this document has been in the works since 2021 and reflects the unwavering commitment of Ashleyโs research and clinical teams in evaluating the effectiveness of our treatment model and further enhancing and personalizing our standard of care. Advanced research is fundamental to increasing positive outcomes and enhancing long-term recovery, and Ashley has made great strides in building our research infrastructure through our partnership with Johns Hopkins, ongoing data collection, and publishing our findings.
