Clinical News October
Ashley in the news on ABC2 Baltimore.
Earlier this month, Ashley Staff members Dr. David Crone, Clinical Psychologist, and Scot Hurley, Major Gifts Officer were on ABC2 news in Baltimore to raise awareness about veterans suffering from PTSD and addictionโ and what Ashley is doing to help.
During the live interview, Scot spoke about Ashleyโs Lou Bantle Golf Classic, an annual event that raises funds for the Ashley Military Scholarship to support military members and their families in critical need of quality addiction treatment and without the means to get it. Dr. Crone, who previously worked at a military base helping active duty members with PTSD, addressed why it is so common for military members who developed PTSD from active duty are now struggling with addiction.
At Ashley, we see many cases like this among our military and non-military patients. Patients with PTSD used drugs, alcohol and/or other substances to help suppress vivid memories and emotions affiliated with their trauma. The first need is to get the patient sober which allows them an opportunity to do the needed work in confronting and managing the effects of their trauma. Dr. Crone works closely with the patients in treating their addiction and PTSD. โWe use empirically supported Cognitive Behavioral Therapies to treat PTSD in order to allow patients to not only heal from the substance use but also their PTSD. Treating both disorders simultaneously is something unique to Ashley Addiction Treatment.โ, says Dr. Crone.
